Our Big Adventure

Are you ready?!
Oh! My! Goodness!
This is huge!
HUGE!
If you know us, you know that Shawn and I have been talking forever about wanting a HUGE piece of property. We want to have chickens and goats and grow our own food.
I want to be a bee keeper...
Shawn wants to make and sell furniture...
We want a place for our kids to hunt and fish and learn out in the open air...

We finally got it!  Look at this!  On Friday, May 4th, we closed on this....

This is 10 acres in the Coastal Plain of North Carolina.
This is going to be the site of our new home/homestead/mini-farm....eventually, and we are so excited!
Shawn and I thought it would be fun to take YOU, our family and friends along for the ride and blog our adventure as we go.

So, we closed on May 4th relatively "site" unseen.  There is a large barn on the property (MAN CAVE IN PROGRESS!!) and a single story home that is in need of some TLC.
This is exciting for us as we outgrew our current 1100 square foot home 2 children and 2 dogs ago! (Can we say S-A-R-D-I-N-E-S?).

After the closing on the 4th, it was exploration time....here is some of what we discovered.
The barn (a HUGE garage) is Shawn's dream come true.  Here he will have a place to make furniture, work on his truck and do lots of other guy things with the kids.  Right now we are in the process of carefully sifting through the piles of junk left behind by the previous owner who passed away.  But, you know what?  Even picking through the junk has been SO much fun.  We are slowly uncovering the life of a man we will never meet and have no real ties to, but we have discovered that he loved to work on his antique cars, was an aspiring inventor and a connoisseur of home made fermented beverages!
We even inherited a urinal, 2 wheel chairs, a set of crutches, several bottles of homemade wine, a large bag of syringes for insulin, and an exercise machine! (LOL).  There is another side to all of that, however.  Along with junk, we found many letters written to his Korean wife, multitudes of family photos, trophies from multiple car shows and plans for inventions in the making.  He was obviously a man who lived and loved.  Shawn plans to frame one of the photos of his antique cars simply because it is someone's forgotten dream.
Here are some pictures of the barn.

The doublewide is in need of some TLC, but like I already said, it will make the perfect fixer-upper for anyone willing to buy it for a very fair price and cart it off the property (feel free to pass the word!)

The land has been logged, but is as overgrown with bamboo, wild blackberry bushes and undesirable critters that slither and crawl (EEEK!).  Cue family with heavy equipment...my father-in-law has already begun helping us clear portions of the land.  We have SOOOOO many plans for this land, and we feel so blessed by it already.

Dakota and I are tickled to death about this little trailer that is tucked deep in the woods!  This is our future SHE-SHED.  Our plan is to paint it white and pink (of course) on the outside and to redo the inside as a place for GIRLS ONLY!  The boys get the barn...the girls get the camper!  Pictures as we go!

Our timeline is WIDE open at this point.  As you know, the last 18 months or so have been rough.  Shawn's January 2017 car accident (no fault of his own), left him with severely bruised ribs, several bulging disks and extensive nerve damage.  On April 9th, he underwent total disk replacement at C-6,7.  Recovery has been slow and has been interrupted by two bouts of MRSA.

We are eager to get him healthy again and he is excited by all of the projects ahead!  First, though, he must be cleared by his surgeon and neurologist.  His post-op follow-up is scheduled for May 22, so keep that in prayer!

So, since we are dragging you along with us on this adventure, we thought we should give you some direction on how to pray with us too!
I'll try to remember to make this a consistent part of my bloggy updates! Feel free to share the posts too!

Here is what are praying for:
-Total healing for Shawn
-Guidance as we begin scouring house plans for the perfect home
-Wisdom and financial organization, as we juggle 2 properties for a while
-Patience, as we all are so excited to get things rolling
-Safety as we travel between properties often
-The perfect position for Shawn when he is able to go back to work
-Jill's VIPKID teaching to continue to bless the family:  Thinking about VIPKID? Follow my link!

OH!  But the praises, though:
-The new property is 7 minutes by car from the PIERRO house (Jill's parents and sister) and 7 minutes by foot to the BARTEE house (Shawn's mom and step-dad)
-The property is 47.7 miles to Nags Head in the Outer Banks and 55.5 miles to Virginia Beach
-Need I go on????

YES!   A special thank you to my parents.  This land was a gift to our family from them! And what a gift it is!!!!!

Follow along with us!  Make suggestions!  Give us some ideas!  Then, come visit us when we are finally moved in!
